Cuando empezaron a venderse canciones se hicieron en unos cilindros de cera que dieron después paso a los discos de celuloide y después de vinilo. Los primeros sencillos no podían rebasar los tres minutos que eran lo que permitían las 78RPM a los que se movían, pero la llegada de las nuevas máquinas de 45RPM y 33 RPM nos permitieron disfrutar de canciones enormes en todos los sentidos como la que nos regala hoy nuestra amiga María Carricas que parece de Bilbao, je, je (más de ocho minutos de música, ¡Virgen Santa!).

Meat Loaf (al que hemos tenido en esta y esta entradas) nace en Texas en 1947. Sufre una infancia fácil por el alcoholismo de su padre., pero encontrará siempre el apoyo de su madre que le inicia en el mundo de la música. Marcha a California para iniciar su carrera como actor y cantante lo que le permite ser elegido para participar en el musical Hair. Marcha a Broadway donde entra en contacto con el compositor Jim Steinman al que unirá su destino durante años. Salta a la fama con su papel en The Rocky Horror Show y aprovechando ese renacer de los musicales lanza el disco Bat Out Of Hell, donde las canciones se asemejan a una obra teatral contando historias y en el aspecto musical se acercan al rock duro. Al principio las ventas fueron escasas pero gracias al empujón del mercado británico y australiano consiguieron promocionarlo en EE.UU. y que aceptasen esos temas tan largos y complicados como Bat Out Of Hell o esta Paradise By The Dashboard Light, consiguiendo vender 43 millones de discos. El éxito será veneno para él aumentando sus adicciones con la cocaína, y rompiendo con su compañero de fatigas tras otro disco increíble como fue  Dead Ringer. Los ochenta son un periodo de decadencia del artista del que sale tras volver a reunirse con Jim Steinman y grabar Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell. Rehabilitado simultaneará los discos y las giras con su participación en papeles secundarios en cine y televisión.

La picarona de María nos trae la historia de una noche contada a dos voces, donde él pone toda la carne en al asador para ver como ella le frena en el último instante diciendo que antes de … yacer hay que prometer, y de lo que sucede a partir de entonces os enteraréis escuchando la canción.
